How to Make Kief Coffee

Estimated 2-minute read

If you like to create your own cannabis-infused edibles, there are more than just the nugs of your favorite strain that will do the work. Kief, a pollen that results from the shiny trichomes of cannabis flowers, can also be used as a great additive to your favorite weed recipes.

What comes to mind when talking about cannabis edibles are usually cookies or brownies. However, kief goes extremely well with a particular drink; the stimulating effects of caffeine can very nicely compliment the stoning effects of cannabis. With kief and coffee, not only do the two flavors mix really well, but the connection between them is well known by most experienced herb consumers. After all, there’s nothing quite like starting off your day with a nice cup of coffee and the potent effects of cannabis.

If you are looking for the ultimate step by step guide to make kief coffee, we have an easy recipe for you. You may want to check you have collected enough pollen in your grinder, though. Once you taste this mix, we are sure you won’t like your coffee in any other way.

How to Decarboxylate Kief

You probably know that in order for cannabinoids to activate, you first need to decarb your flower. Decarbing kief is actually very simple and it is almost the same as decarbing your regular bud.

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven at 230°F.
  • Step 2: Spread about .25 - .5 grams of kief into a flat layer on a parchment paper lined baking tray and place it into the oven for 25 to 35 minutes. This will activate all the cannabinoids and terpenes of your pollen. You will need to watch closely on it as it cooks to make sure it doesn’t burn. Stir up the mix occasionally to prevent burning.
  • Step 3: When your kief starts to turn brown-ish, remove from the oven and let it cool.

Once your kief is decarbed, cannabinoids are now activated and ready to be used in any dish you’d like. The best thing about kief is that it goes well with almost anything, since it will add a very soft yet powerful flavor.

How to Make Kief Coffee

Now that you have decarboxylated your kief, you are minutes away from trying a true cannabis delicacy. Simply make a hot batch of coffee and add decarboxylated kief into it. Then, stir the cup and you will have a potent, stimulating, and delicious kief coffee.

To derive the maximum benefit of the kief we recommend using a splash of milk or creamer in your coffee, the important thing is to make sure it stays hot. The fat molecules present in the dairy will give the cannabinoids leeching away from the kief something to bind to, making them blend way better.

An important aspect to take into account is that, if your kief comes from a high THC flower, it will certainly release the common psychoactive effects of cannabis. On the other hand, if your kief is all from CBD flowers, you are good to go in case you need to have a clear head. It is up to you to decide how you want to start your day.
