How to Use a One Hitter
A one hitter is one of the most effective methods to smoke cannabis, keeping everything discreet and compact. These versatile pipes can be found in a variety of styles and sizes, appealing to smokers who prefer to control their dosage and have a smoke on the go.
If you want to keep things simple, a one hitter or chillum is probably the best option for you. In case you want to learn more about these practical pipes, this guide will teach you how to use a one hitter to have a perfect smoke wherever you go.
How to Pack a One Hitter
For many smokers, packing a one hitter might look a bit difficult, since the bowl is placed horizontally. For this reason, it is important to pack a one hitter to perfection, avoiding the ground cannabis to fall once you hold your chillum in a horizontal way.
To pack your one hitter, follow these simple steps:
Grind your herb: make sure it has a perfect consistency. While many smokers like to just put a nug in the bowl of their one hitter, it won’t give you a smooth smoke, since the herb won’t burn evenly. Given the small bowl of a one hitter, many users grind their herb and place the ground cannabis in a small container. Use whatever works best for you. If you want to avoid going through the hassle of getting an extra container, we recommend to simply get a KLIP and use the transfer funnel that comes with it. This way, you just have to grind your herb and it will directly fall into the bowl of your one hitter.
Make sure the herb isn’t packed too tight, since this won’t provide good airflow. Remember that a one hitter is used for a small dose, so it makes no sense trying to overload it.
How to Smoke a One Hitter
Now that the bowl is loaded, it is time to smoke your one hitter. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and slowly bring the flame from a lighter or hemp wick towards the bowl. Inhale while lighting your bowl, drawing the flame into contact with the ground cannabis.
In this sense, you will create a cherry. This way you won’t need to use your lighter anymore. Now, have a slow, smooth inhale and exhale, making sure you are not overdoing it so that you don’t cough or get herb in your mouth. Remember this is a one hitter, so don’t try to maximize the amount of hits you give it. If you need more, simply pack another bowl.
How to Use a Dugout One Hitter
Although packing a standalone one hitter is not a hard task, many smokers like to use a dugout pipe to make the loading process much easier. A dugout one hitter has a space to hold the chillum and another one to place your ground herb. In this sense, you won’t need to get a small container to pack your herb, allowing you to have everything you need in just one device.
To pack your dugout, simply grind your herb and then place it in the herb case until it is nearly full. Be sure to leave room at the top to avoid overflowing. In addition, you need to make sure it is not packed too tight, as this will create an uneven burn.
Then, take the end of your pipe with the bowl facing down, and slowly dip it into your dugout. Just as you would do with a single one hitter, apply a little bit of pressure and twist until it is packed full. Now that it is packed, you will simply smoke it as explained above.
Most one hitters come with a poker, which will allow you to remove resin once you are done smoking. Simply take the poker and remove all the debris from your bowl, or gently tap your bowl against a hard surface. This is just a temporary solution to have your one hitter clean, but you should thoroughly clean it once in a while to avoid resin build-up.
As you can see, one hitters are a simple device to get a quick smoke wherever you are. While this won’t allow you to share a smoking session with friends, it will definitely save you some cannabis, minimizing the amount of herb you consume.
