Estimated 5-minute read

Did you know that Santa Claus is laughing all the time during Christmas because he’s high as a kite during the entire duration of this season? It’s true, look it up. And you can be too, if you take advantage of some of the best cannabis-related recipes you will find here, with your friends at HØJ. Because, after all, this is the season to be happy and jolly, and if weed is awesome at doing anything, it brings happiness everywhere it goes. So, this time, we want to take a look into one of the absolute best staples of this season, which many of you eagerly await once Halloween and Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror: delicious, creamy eggnog.

For those who you who aren’t aware of it, eggnog is a “it’s a delightfully creamy sweet drink made with eggs, cream and a variety of spices”, according to the the blog Taste of Home, and it can be drinked both hot or cold, with or without the spirit of your choice, usually something like rum or brandy to give it a little spike for the adults watching kids going crazy over the Christmas tree.

However, as you will see very soon, alcohol is not the only thing you can use to give it the spike you need; with eggnog already being the drink of choice during the winter holidays to get cozy and relaxed during an otherwise frantic season of shopping, parties and feasts, weed is a very natural choice to bring that relaxing effect up to 11. The strong sweetness of the eggnog, which many can describe as “melted custard” goes pretty well with an infusion of cannabis, as well as many of the spices that give this delicious drink the identity it has during the Christmas days.

Also, we know that many people choose to buy their eggnog instead of making it from scratch, but believe us when we tell you that actually good cannabis-infused nog has to be homemade, and preferably shared with a couple of friends during a relaxed Christmas gathering, watching together the single best holiday movie of all time: The Grinch. He’s also green and makes Christmas better, it fits.

So without further ado, let’s check out the recipe to prepare the undeniable drink of choice for the winter holidays, and make it even better with the infusion of a plant that brings so much joy during the rest of the year. Season greetings from everyone at HØJ, and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Let’s make the best cannabis-infused eggnog you will ever have

The first thing you should know is that making eggnog is not difficult at all, as it just needs a few simple ingredients and procedures, so you can whip up some pretty much every time you get a craving for it. However, for this particular recipe, you will need a specific ingredient that you will need to prepare ahead of time: Cannabis milk. As eggnog is basically a dairy-based drink, getting the correct texture is important, so it’s not enough to just add a couple drops of THC into it. So, make sure to prepare some ahead of time and keep it handy when the eggnog fever gets to you. To make it, you will need…

Cannabis milk recipe

What you need to have:

  • 4 cups of the fattiest milk you can get (coconut milk works if you are vegan)
  • 1 ounce of your cannabis flower of choice

What you need to do:

Grind the flowers to perfection (we recommend this very cool grinder right here), and mix them up with the milk. Pour everything into a sauce pan, and let it heat up to 165°F (or 74°C), watch it with a thermometer, and once you reach that temperature, let it simmer for 30 minutes. Once that is done, pour the milk through a filter (save the pulp if you want) and let it cool off completely before putting it into the fridge. It will last as long as the original best-by date of the milk. Done! Now that you have your cannabis milk, let’s go directly to the eggnog we promised you.

How to make cannabis eggnog

What you need to have:

  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups your homemade cannabis milk
  • 6 egg yolks
  • ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon of salt

What you need to do:

Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar for a couple of minutes until you achieve a creamy mix. Pour it on a saucepan, and add the whipping cream, the cannabis milk, and the spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and salt), over a medium-high heat, letting it simmer gradually. Once it simmers, bring the heat down (but don’t turn it off completely), and scoop a ladleful of the resulting mixture and whisk it until it gets creamy again. Add more and repeat the process until you are done. Once you have whisked everything, pour the mixture back into the saucepan to medium-heat again. Again, whisk the mixture until it thickens, and you reach a temperature of around 170°F (or 77°C). Once it has the consistency of a thick sauce, turn off the heat, stir, and add the vanilla extract and an extra pinch of salt. Let it cool off, put it into an airtight container until it is ice cold. You are done!

We prefer our eggnog served with ice and maybe some rum in it, but you can also heat it up for a specially cold evening, put some whipped cream on top, and sprinkle it with cinnamon to achieve maximum cozyness if there’s snow outside. You can store the eggnog safely for up to a week, but we seriously doubt it will last that long. However, having some cannabis-infused nog at the ready for whatever gathering or surprise visit might come your way these holidays. So there you have it, the perfect drink to bring the joy you need during winter. We hope this eggnog becomes as popular as it is around here at HØJ, and that you spend a happy Christmas with your favorite people.

Happy holidays!
