Time to read 6 min

The United States’s cannabis industry has been growing tremendously. It’s only natural that there are all sorts of events surrounding 4/20, and if you live in states that have legalized marijuana, or maybe live close by, or even if you’re willing to drop everything and go on an adventure, I’ve got the guide for you.

Let’s explore together some of the best places and experiences in these cannabis-friendly states just in time for the festivities!

California

The state of California officially began selling recreational cannabis in January 2018. With four years in the making, the cannabis market has been growing and maturing immensely, so much that it’s attracted tourists looking to have memorable cannabis experiences.

From painting to music festivals, here are the top 3 activities that are happening this April:

Mecca’s Super Mario 420

Mecca Mid City is a female-owned cannabis dispensary, and every year they host their annual 4/20 event where they transform their entire store into an interactive Super Mario World 420 Edition.

Be sure to keep an eye out for a storewide 20% discount along with games, raffles, entertainment, and different types of food. Mecca's menu is curated, offering great cannabis brands that will make sure to find your old-time favorite (or new favorite!) there.

  • Location: Mecca Mid City at 5738 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA

Sip, Smoke & Paint

Let your inner artist shine through this event, where you will take a seat, drink, smoke a hookah, and make a painting!

This outdoor rooftop has experienced local artists that will guide you step-by-step through creating a work of art. The good news is that you don’t actually have to be a painter; this experience is perfect for beginners and enthusiasts with the sole purpose of relaxing and creating a painting that you can be proud of.

  • Location: Sunset Rooftop at 6097 Sunset Boulevard. Los Angeles, CA
  • Tickets: $50 - $70

Colorado

Colorado legalized cannabis in 2014, and since then, it has faithfully celebrated the 4/20 holiday. There’s plenty of stuff to do, whether it’s just taking a walk at some regional parks or even going to a series of baseball games.

Dinosaur Ridge

Want to spend your 4/20 checking out visible dinosaur fossils and footprints?  I sure as hell would love to!

Dinosaur Ridge is a very unique piece of geological history that is a part of Winters Park, which, years ago, contemplated animals such as Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, and Allosaurus.

Make sure to plan your visit well by bringing water, sunscreen, and dressing for changing weather!

  • Location: 16831 W Alameda Pkwy, Morrison, CO

Rockies Games

Colorado’s favorite team is back! Have you heard the news?

The Rockies play a baseball game every day from April 14th to April 20. Seven games may sound a bit exhausting, but if you’re willing to attend every single one of them, it’s a relief to know that seats can often be found cheap.

If you wish to attend a few games or only one, that could leave plenty of money for food and cannabis and make the baseball game even more compelling!

  • Location: 2001 Blake St, Denver, CO 80205

Secret Stash Yoga: Friday Morning Elevated Flow

This class consists of an hour-long yoga Vinyasa flow, where you match your breath to dynamic movement by going up and down the mat.

You may be wondering if you can take cannabis in the class, and the answer is yes! There’s an option to arrive before class begins to partake in your cannabis rituals before starting.

Illinois

Illinois is about to celebrate its third legal 4/20 festivity! In mid-2019, this state legalized recreational cannabis, which started to make the marijuana market grow.

Strangefruit Premium Cannabis Annual 4:20 POP UP

This year there’s a private event hosted by the Strangefruit Family, which is meant to have live entertainment, giveaways, games, and food!

  • Location: West Town, close to Wicker Park. The address will be sent by email on the day of the event.
  • Tickets: $50 - $180

Massachusetts

In November 2018, the state of Massachusetts legalized recreational cannabis sales. Every year this state gets ready for the 4/20 festivity by organizing music festivals, art exhibits, and comedy shows around Massachusetts!

Toke & Paint

Art with a 4/20 twist, where you can go and relax with an edible as you paint whatever you want. Your ticket includes admission, paint, painting supplies, canvas, an edible, and appetizers!

Up in Smoke Comedy Show

This comedy show will host five different comedians and will have PM blends, hookah services, edible and cannabis vendors.

  • Location: 333 Essex Street, Lawrence, MA
  • Tickets: $20

Michigan

Back in November 2018, Michigan legalized adult use only cannabis; a year later, the state-regulated cannabis recreational sales according to its laws. The people of Michigan have been organizing 4/20 festivities ever since, from comedy shows, tour buses, and many kinds of festivals.

The Weed Bar 420 Bus Tour

The Weed Bar does a bus tour every year to celebrate 4/20. Last year the bus ride included stops at locations with goodies, drinks, and food, and this year it looks more promising!

This April 20, The Weed Bar Bus Tour will stop at the hottest stores, a tasting event, and…  A top-secret location.

  • Location: 600 River Place Drive, Detroit, MI

Oregon

Marijuana growth, sales, and consumption of the product remain federal offenses in the state of Oregon; nonetheless, ever since July 2016, recreational cannabis use and possession by people 21 and older was legalized!

The following events surrounding 4/20 will be hosted online, so if you don’t live in Oregon or you prefer to avoid crowds, you can still attend the virtual gatherings from the comfort of your own home.

Tokeativity Clubhouse Roundtable

Are you interested in cannabis and feminism? Tokeativity is a global community of cannabis consumers and business owners looking to empower a modern look at the consumer culture.

This 4/20 activity is meant to educate on different topics surrounding cannabis. It consists of a roundtable discussion on the Clubhouse App, where Lisa Snyder, Tokeativity Co-Founder, and Chief Innovator, will host a very informative panel around cannabis, feminism, and the consumption movement.

Be sure to sign up and check it out!

  • Location: Clubhouse App (virtual)
  • Tickets: Free, although you must have a Tokeativity account to register for this event.

Clubhouse: "Women in Weed - The Power of the Flower"

Tokeativity presents another roundtable for women in the cannabis industry; however, if you’re a woman who is only looking forward to appreciating the power of the flower, all the way from seed to smoke, this roundtable is perfect for you!

  • Tickets: Free, although you must have a Tokeativity account to register for this event.

Washington

Washington legalized medical marijuana in 1998.  In December 2012, it became the first U.S. state to legalize recreational use of marijuana and also the first to allow recreational marijuana sales.

There are events around 4/20, but I’ve selected three unusual ones that will most likely spark your curiosity.

Gateway Show with Billy Anderson

The dynamic is simple: stand-up comedians tell you jokes, get super high, and come back and attempt to tell more jokes.

Getting high inside the venue is not allowed; however, they take an intermission for a reason… Once you leave the venue, you’re allowed to do whatever you need to do, then go back.

  • Price: $20 - $50
  • Location: Erikson Theatre, 1524 Harvard Avenue, Seattle, WA

Venice is Sinking Masquerade Ball

Ever wanted to attend a Masquerade Ball? This is your chance to do it and dive into the mystery and splendor because you will have to wear a mask in order to gain entry to the venue!

Suppose you’re single and willing to mingle. In that case, I have some great news for you: Epiphany Events is partnering with Defrost Dating, where guests who indicate that they are "single" will have a red ribbon tied around their wrist, that way, they can easily spot each other at the Ball.

  • Price: $10 - $1,000
  • Location: Seattle Design Center Events, 5701 6th Avenue South Seattle, WA

Be sure to check age requirements as well as cannabis requirements before attending the events. If you want to be prepared for everything, check out our premium rolling hemp papers to smoke on the go!

Be safe, enjoy, and have a very high 4/20 holiday!
