5 Ways To Get Rid Of Weed Smell Out Of Your Car

Estimated 5-minute read

Whether you’re hotboxing with your friends on a chill Friday night or using your car to smoke by yourself, so you don’t bother anyone in your house, weed smell can be a very telling odor.

I have surfed the internet through several forums and different blog posts, so you don’t have to, and collected advice from expert stoners around the world. Here’s a quick guide to five different ways in which you can get rid of pot smell out of your car, from DIYs to specific products you can buy.

Use odor absorbers: Baking soda

Materials to make your experiment successful:

  • Baking soda (aka sodium bicarbonate)
  • A vacuum
  • A bowl

Time invested:

  • 15 minutes - overnight

Potguide recommends neutralizing the cannabis smell with an odor absorber. Baking soda is an excellent choice because of its effectiveness and the fact that you probably already have it in your kitchen.

What you’ll need to do is sprinkle a fair amount of baking soda on the seats and carpets, leave it for at least 15 minutes while the doors and windows are closed, and then vacuum up. If you don’t own a vacuum or don’t have the time to do it, the alternative is to place a generous amount of baking soda in a bowl and just leave it in your car overnight. When you’re finished, drive around with the windows opened.

Another odor absorber: White vinegar

Materials to make your experiment successful:

  • White vinegar
  • A spray bottle
  • A bowl
  • Water

Time invested:

  • 15 minutes - overnight

White vinegar is a strong odor absorber, just like baking soda is. Potguide recommends two ways of doing it.

Much like the baking soda experiment, the easiest way to do it is to pour a cup of white vinegar into a bowl and leave it in the car overnight. If you’d instead not leave such strong liquid for 10 hours, you could make your spray mix by combining a teaspoon of vinegar with a cup of water and spraying it through the seats and carpets. If you prefer this method, you could even keep the bottle in the glove compartment and use it every time you finish smoking. After you’re done cleaning, drive around with the windows open.

Odor eliminators: Ozium spray

Materials to make your experiment successful:

  • Ozium spray

Time invested:

  • 50 minutes

Reddit experts suggest buying an odor eliminator called Ozium spray; apparently, it’s what landlords, landladies, and car dealerships use to get the smoke smell out of apartments and cars.

After cleaning and wiping down the inside of your vehicle, spray Ozium for 30 to 60 seconds, then shut the doors and wait for half an hour and allow it to act. When you get back, roll the windows down and let the spray dissipate before you jump back and drive around with the windows fully open.

Although Ozium is a very effective odor eliminator, users point out that you should use it with caution. The odor eliminator could be toxic if not allowed to dissipate, so use it safely and always proceed with caution. When you buy the product, read the safety rules before using it!

More odor eliminators: Cannabolish spray

Materials to make your experiment successful:

  • Cannabolish spray

Time invested:

  • 5 minutes

Cannabolish Wintergreen Spray is made up of plant oils and natural ingredients, and it is scientifically designed to neutralize the odor molecules from cannabis smoke. The Cannabolish online store points out that a traditional air freshener will only mask the scent; that’s why they developed a natural odor-eliminating product actually to get rid of the weed smell.

Using Cannabolish spray is extremely easy: just pump a few sprays in your air vents, on your seats, carpets, and in the air. The next step is to turn on your AC, and the spray will do the rest. It’s a simple, non-toxic, and on-the-go solution.

Masking fragrances

Materials to make your experiment successful:

  • Any fragrance

Time invested:

  • Minutes

Masking fragances such as air sprayers and deodorizers are an easy way of masking the pot smell in your car. The advantage is that these fragrances are found anywhere, from convenience stores to supermarkets, and you just need to spray them on your vehicle to make it smell better instantly. However, the downside is that these products only mask the scent for 4 to 6 hours, then they’re gone.

Fragrances may help you out when you need them the most, but if you want a long-term solution, they may not be the best option.

Something that might really work for you, not only if you smoke in your car but also if you usually do it in closed spaces… make sure you have a secure place to store your pipe that keeps the smell of cannabis inside and not outside. Some very innovative brands of smoking accessories have done unbelievable things with their packaging; these packages will allow you to keep smells inside them. A perfect example is the HØJ brand; both their KØL pipe and the KLIP grinder bring a phenomenal unboxing experience. Those are packaged in a cork base and with a 100% biodegradable plastic lid that does not allow odor to escape from them once you store your pipe or grinder on it. So, these will not only be delivery boxes for your accessories, but a good place to keep them and avoid odor problems in the future. Just make sure the lid is closed correctly in order for them to work 100% as a smell retainer.

Choose your own cleaning method to get rid of the cannabis smell, or even better, combine several methods like overnight baking soda and spraying Cannabolish over your car next thing in the morning. I encourage you to try it out and comment on which method worked best for you!

Last but not least, remember to be a responsible adult every time you smoke weed in your car, and always keep in mind that you shouldn’t smoke and drive. Be safe!
