Whether you’re going on a trip with your pet, you’re moving to another city or it’s 4th of July and full of fireworks, you might be considering giving your pet a little bit of something special to help it relax. You are, perhaps, a little skeptical but also curious about CBD. After all, it is technically a natural remedy, but it’s that plant– cannabis. 

Well, I recently wrote an article in which I talked about whether or not you should give CBD to your cat (you can find that article here). I addressed the fact that the use of cannabis in animals is still something very new and not yet properly regulated by the FDA. However, there are still some over the counter products that you can get in many parts of the US.

CBD can be very helpful for treating a lot of conditions and disorders for humans as well as for pets (specifically cats and dogs)– one very popular target to treat is anxiety. 

Look, I have a Border Collie, so that alone states the fact that I know about dog anxiety. To top that off, I got my beautiful baby boy as a two month old pup with a bad case of ringworm, which required him to be quarantined for two months, not to mention the fact that after he was cured, we moved into a different apartment next to a fire station, a police station and a hospital. It’s sirens all the way down. And I live in Seattle, so of course I did my good research about CBD for dogs! At least on the moving day and on the first night in our new place my dog needed some some help relaxing! And my gosh was CBD helpful for him. We haven’t used it ever since, because he hasn’t really needed it, but that one time was simply what we needed. So, here are the top CBD products for dogs and/or cats that I found.


Stress Releaf Edibites

The brand is called Pet Releaf. They have oils for cats and dogs, and edible treats for dogs. The “edibites” have nice flavors for dogs, like peanut butter, so you shouldn’t have much trouble with your little friend eating them. Plus, their certifications include USDA Organic and NASC!


Paw CBD Pet CBD Oil Tincture for Dogs

This is a wonderful product specifically designed for dogs. They have a peanut butter flavor and an unfavored option. It’s pretty easy to use, as it comes with a plastic dropper that is pet safe. It’s suggested use is twice daily or as needed. Its certifications include NASC, THC free and GMP.


CBDfx Cat Tincture

This chicken-flavored CBD-rich hemp oil might just do wonders for your cat. Its benefits include: wellness, calming, and anti-inflammation, plus, it is derived from 100% organically grown hemp!


Penelope’s Bloom CBD Oil Tincture For Dogs

This US made oil tincture for dogs is designed to digest seamlessly and deliver rapid relaxation. It is pretty easy to administer– you can even add it to your dog’s food, not to mention that it’s tested by a third party for product safety, potency, and effectiveness. It is always important to remember that the use of cannabis on pets is still an evergoing work in progress. Remember to always seek professional advice on this matter– whether it's your vet or another qualified expert on the subject. Moreover, if you do decide to give CBD to your pet it’s always best to look for products marked by the Certified Seal of the U.S. Hemp Authority or the National Animal Supplements Council (NASC) Quality Seal, as these products must be audited by a third party to verify that they meet industry-imposed standards.
