How Do Bongs Work

Estimated 4-minute read

Bongs are a very popular option when talking about weed consumption. It is a very practical way to get stoned fast and you save a lot of weed in the process. In comparison, when you roll a joint you might be using a whole gram and sometimes even more. In a bong it depends on the bowl size, but you can hit it many times and get high with half of what you would have used in a joint. Similar scenario of what happen with herb pipes.

But, have you ever felt curious about how it works? There are several variations of bongs and techniques like the gravity bong or bongs with ice catchers, lets learn how do they differ from each other and most importantly... how do they work.

1: How do bongs work and how to use a bong

Bongs, also known as water pipes, are a popular method of smoking various substances, including tobacco and cannabis. They work by filtering smoke through water before it is inhaled, resulting in a smoother and cooler hit.

The basic structure of a bong consists of a bowl, where the substance is placed and lit, a stem, connecting the bowl to the base, and a base, which contains water. Smoke is created when the substance is lit and drawn through the stem and into the base filled with water. The water cools and filters the smoke, removing some of the harmful toxins and ash.

One of the features of a bong is the carburetor, also known as a “carb” or “shotty,” which is a small hole located on the side of the bowl. The carb is covered while lighting the bowl, and then uncovered while inhaling, allowing fresh air to enter in the chamber and clear out the smoke.

There are many different types of bongs in the market, each with their own unique features and designs. Some bongs have percolators, which are additional chambers filled with water that further filter and cool the smoke. Others have ice catchers, which allow for ice to be added to the stem, resulting in an even cooler hit.

Bongs can also come in a variety of materials, such as glass, ceramic, and acrylic. Glass bongs are the most popular due to their durability and ability to withstand high temperatures. Ceramic and acrylic are also popular options, as they are more affordable and less fragile.

2. How do bongs with ice catchers work, other smoking method

As we already mentioned there are bongs with ice catchers which provide a cooler and smoother hit than regular bongs. An ice catcher is a feature that allows for ice to be added to the stem of the bong, resulting in a colder smoke and a more comfortable smoking experience.

The ice catcher works by holding ice in the stem of the bong, which is the part of the bong that the smoke travels through before reaching the user. As the smoke passes through the ice, it cools down, resulting in a much cooler hit. This can be especially beneficial for those who are sensitive to the heat of the smoke, or for those who want to reduce the harshness of the smoke.

Bongs with ice catchers come in a variety of design and materials, such as glass, ceramic, and acrylic. When purchasing a bong with an ice catcher it is important to consider the size of the ice catcher and the amount of ice it can hold. It

3. How do gravity bongs work

Now we look at my favorite because of its versatility and easy way to adapt a simple bucket and the neck of a bottle into a magnificent bong and smoking experience. Gravity bongs, also known as “bucket bongs” or “waterfall bongs” are a unique method of smoking that uses the force of gravity to pull smoke into the chamber. They are often considered to be a more intense way of smoking due to the large amount of smoke that is indeed at once.

A gravity bong typically consists of two parts: a container, such as a plastic bottle or bucket, and a bowl, which is used to hold the substance being smoked. The container is filled with water, and the bowl is placed on top of the container and filled with the substance.

To use a gravity bong, the bowl is lit while the container is filled with water, and the container is slowly lifted out of the water while the bowl is still lit. As the container is lifted, the air pressure inside of it decreases creating a vacuum. This vacuum causes the smoke from the bowl to be pulled into the container and then into the lungs of the person inhaling.

Gravity bongs can be a more intense way of smoking due to the large amount of smoke that is inhaled at once. However, it is important to use them responsibly and in a safe environment. They can be made from different materials, like plastic bottles, buckets, cans and even created from wood.

It is important to keep in mind that inhaling large amounts of smoke in one hit can be harsh on the lungs. Additionally, it is important to use clean and safe materials when building or using a gravity bong.

There are the more popular bongs and the difference between them. In conclusion bongs work by filtering smoke through water before it is inhaled, resulting in a smoother and cleaner smoking experience. Bongs have different and unique features, however their function is very similar among themselves.
